Lars Daniel is a digital forensics expert and expert witness with more than 17 years in the field. He testifies in state, federal, and international courts across digital, computer, cell phone, video, photo, and audio forensics, in both criminal and civil cases, for defense and prosecution, plaintiffs and defendants alike.
His career has tracked the field's hardest evidence questions as they arrive: early mobile device forensics, then cloud and Internet of Things data, and now AI-generated media and deepfakes. He has held leadership roles at major forensics firms, building teams of examiners drawn from Homeland Security, the Secret Service, and federal and state High-Tech Crime task forces.
Lars has trained thousands of attorneys and claims professionals, delivering more than 400 Continuing Legal Education and Continuing Education classes. His teaching makes dense forensic material useful to the non-technical professionals who have to act on it the next morning.
He writes the digital forensics column at Forbes, covering AI evidence, deepfakes, expert testimony, and the practical impact of new technology on litigation and claims work. He is the author of "The Trucking Defense Guide to Cell Phone Forensics." He keynotes legal and insurance conferences across the United States, and publishes a LinkedIn newsletter widely read across the legal and insurance industries.
